Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026
Nihda LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates Ilm Academy, a grade-based learning platform offering structured courses in Math, Al-Qur'an, English, Science, and other subjects. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our website and learning services.
Information we collect
- Adult account information — name, email address, password (stored securely), role (parent, teacher, student where permitted, or administrator), and profile details provided during registration.
- Student learning profiles — for learners under 13, accounts should be created or managed by a parent, guardian, or authorized teacher. Student profiles may use non-identifying display names where appropriate.
- Learning data — course enrollments, lesson progress, quiz scores, assignment submissions, certificates earned, and activity within the platform.
- Grade and class access — grade level, class assignments, and subject access linked to your account so we can show the right courses.
- Payment information — subscription status and billing records. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider (e.g. Stripe) and are not stored on our servers.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device information, and cookies required to keep you signed in and secure the platform (see our Cookie Settings page).
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
Ilm Academy serves learners from Pre-K through Grade 12, including children under 13. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable.
- Parent or teacher registration. We recommend that children under 13 not register directly. Instead, a parent, guardian, or authorized teacher should create the account and manage student access.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
- Student profiles for young learners should avoid unnecessary personal identifiers (for example, use a display name like "Student1" when appropriate).
- Parents and guardians may review, update, or request deletion of a child's learning data by contacting us.
- We do not sell student personal information or use student learning data for behavioral advertising.
School and teacher use (FERPA)
If a public school, district, or teacher uses Ilm Academy for classroom learning, student information may constitute an “education record” under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Schools and teachers are responsible for ensuring they have authority to use an external platform and, where required, entering into a data privacy agreement (DPA) with us before tracking identifiable student records at scale.
We use student learning data only to provide the educational service, support authorized teachers and parents, and improve platform functionality. We do not sell student data.
How we use your information
- Provide, maintain, and improve courses, lessons, quizzes, and certificates.
- Authenticate users and manage access by grade, class, and subject.
- Process subscriptions and send service-related communications to account holders.
- Generate progress reports for students, parents, and teachers where applicable.
- Protect the security and integrity of the platform and comply with legal obligations.
Religious content
Al-Qur'an and Islamic learning content on the platform is prepared with reference to authentic Qur'anic texts and widely accepted scholarly sources. Ilm Academy does not represent any specific madhab (school of thought). Parents, guardians, and teachers are encouraged to review content and consult qualified scholars for religious guidance specific to their family or institution.
Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only:
- With service providers who help us operate the platform (hosting, email, payments), under confidentiality obligations.
- With teachers or administrators who need access to support enrolled students in their grade or class.
- When required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the platform.
Data retention and security
We retain account and learning data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services, comply with law, and resolve disputes. We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and secure hosting — to protect your information.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Parents and guardians may exercise these rights on behalf of minor learners. Contact us to make a request.
